April 16, 200422 yr thinking of a trip to myanmar ,and wondering what visa requirement is for thai citizen ?? also ,heard a rumour that the $200 FEC requirement has been scrapped?? can anybody help with info ??? cheers
April 16, 200422 yr possom - hi. Yep, you're right about the USD$200 compulsory exchange at the airport - no longer in force, they did away with it last year and no signs of it coming back. However one of my friends in Yangon said be careful not to change money at the airport counters on your way in (just past passport control) - as they were giving a less-than-favourable exchange rate, of 450 kyats the USD$1. If you wait until you get downtown, your hotel, supermarket or shop - you should get around 800-820 kyats. As for visa requirements, try this link to get your Myanmar tourist visa online: Myanmar Online Visa For Thai nationals, a normal tourist visa will be issued the same as any other countries. It is less expensive to get it from the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok (so I'm told) but more convenient online. Good luck and let us Myanmar forum lurkers know if you want some more info. SVB

April 16, 200422 yr Yes I agree. I use myanmarvisa online. It is great though costs an extra 20 USD. Take US Dollars in is the only addition I would make to what SVB has said. IT

April 21, 200422 yr quick question guys .... thai baht easily exchangeable around the country ?????? I wouldn't say it's "easily echangeable", but it is possible at some places in Yangon. You can get Thai baht to Myanmar kyat black market rates from this website; http://www.irrawaddy.org You'll find that most registered guesthouses and hotels will ask for payment in USD.
