Relevant agencies hold forum on wild elephants vs. human

BANGKOK, 18 February 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Natural Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and relevant agencies have co-organized a forum to discuss ways to solve the conflict between elephants in the wild, and villagers.

The point of the forum was to offer related bodies an opportunity to share their views and information on the plight of wild elephants. Surveys by different agencies similarly found that forest encroachment led by agriculture and urbanization has had a great impact on the ecosystem, resulting in frequent encounters between people and elephants in their natural habitat. No state organization has been directly in charge of the issue so far.

The Department of Natural Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has initiated schemes to solve the problem of this confrontation, such as setting up a remedial funds for agriculturists affected by wild elephants, introducing farmers to other jobs in place of growing plants that attract elephants and building ecological trails to facilitate wild animals’ relocation between Thailand and neighboring countries.

long time since those boys saw their dangly bits,

The elephants walk the trails why not put some food on those trails that they like eating if food is readily available for them of different variieties it may help keep them out of farmers land. i mean grow along not dropped so it returns seasonally,

The only solution is to give them their own piece of land where they can't get out. an island. Think of all the billions of $$$ tourists will pay to see them living in the wild thumbsup.gif Thailand will become the hub of wild elephants and tigers wai2.gif

Elephants, alike other sentient creatures share this planet. They should not be shut away and greedily exploited on the animal equivalent of Rikers Island. The arrogance and hubris of Man is breathtaking bah.gif

In a straight one on one the elephant wins.

However in the face of humanities rapacious appetites, in it's never ending pursuit of shiny toys no matter what the consequences, and utter disregard for any species other than itself (and even then that is often limited to certain members of their own particular society, sometimes not even that) then the elephant (like the planet) is <deleted>.
