Hi

I just went to do a 2 months visa run in Laos and i

am already thinking what do do when the 2 months

expire if i want to remain in thailand.

Even if the trip to Vientiane was really

exhausting, i was wondering:

How many times can i do this 2 months (extendable I guess

to one more month) visa run without immigration

complaining and deny my entry?

Thank you. Have a nice day

Can i do it 10 times consecutively?

Is there a specific time limit one can stay, legally, in thailand?

limit

The 60 day entry from a tourist visa can be extended for 30 days at any immigration office is you have a local address to to put on the application form for a fee of 1900 baht.

The only limit on tourist visas is how many you can get at one embassy or consulate.

There is no limit on the amount of time you can stay in the country other than your current permit to stay.

Hi beefslapper

Do you need to attend school in order to keep the

student Visa valid?

student Visa valid?

Yes you do.

To get an extension at immigration requires 8 hours a week for language studies and they check for attendance when you apply for another 90 day extension.

In theory, yes. In reality, not always.

What do you mean "to get an extension you need 8n hours a week"?

Extending a 90 day stay obtained from an Ed visa, requires a minimum of 8 hours/study a week at a language school.

You were mistaken !

There is nowhere in the region which will issue anything other than a single entry (90 day stay) Ed visa. Staying longer requires "extensions of stay" to be obtained from immigration.

The non-ed visa that is valid for a year is a multiple entry that allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year. You could possibley be able to get one in your home country with paperwork from a school.

What people and schools incorrectly call a one year ED visa is enrollment for a one year course of study that allows a person to get a single entry non-ed visa and then 90 day extensions for a total stay of a year.

  • There is no limit to the number of tourist visas you can have or the length of time you can stay in Thailand using tourist visas. However, each Embassy/Consulate has it's own limit to how many back to back tourist visas they will issue to the same person. I doubt you would get 10 from anywhere. Vientiane will likely limit you to 2 or 3. You will probably get warning when you've hit the limit as they will tell you not to come back or put a stamp in you passport telling you that you might not get anymore. At that point you can apply elsewhere.
  • If you plan to stay here a long time using tourist visas you will need to apply at multiple embassies/consulates.
  • ED visa users are being clamped down on and not recommended unless you're planning to attend classes.

I got it. So Vientiane will limit to 2 or 3 consecutive max.

But what happens if, for example, i do two visa runs in Vientiane then I go back to my home country for 4 months, and then back to Thailand ?

would this reset the number of visa runs back to zero or will they see that i have two prior visa runs?

Based on what you say after one year or two, even changing consulates for visa runs, one will run out of embassies to go to and will eventually be denied entry.

Can you pls reply?

If you got a tourist visa while you are back home it would certainly break the chain of visas,

What they normally do is only count back to back visa done by them. Back to back means getting one and then going back for another one when that on finishes.

So far, even when you go to Savannakhet after you got 2 or 3 Visas from Vientiane, the chain is broken and you could start again in Vientiane. If this has changed, please correct me.

It's impossible to answer for sure especially since the recent changes to tourist visas. You would certainly break the back to back cycle which seems to be the main concern, but how long they consider someone needs to wait to reapply there I don't know, and I doubt anyone else does. The reason for the restriction at Vientiane is due to concerns over illegal workers that use back to back visas.

IMO if you left a gap of at least a few months you'd be good for another. Even the 'you cant have anymore' stamp doesn't say you cant have anymore. It says proof of residence and income might be needed for future applications.

So in theory,

If next visa.run I go to savannakhet, (plus one month extension) , then I go to kuala Lumpur, (plus one month) ,

Then I go back to Vientiane, and repeat I should be just fine , am I correct?

As things stand I think that will work. thumbsup.gif

Does not have to be a language school. Education includes other courses or simply school which my daughter attends.

Penang is a good place to apply, high rate of approval. Banana Penang is an agency / guesthouse most people use to assist.

Interesting ;

Can it be an average over the 90 days or you must attend 8 hours every "schools" (non holidays) weeks?

That is the total number of hours that person must enroll for not the attendance. The hours must be 2 hours a day 4 days a week. Most schools offer 400 hours that would allow a total stay of one year. Not sure what what percentage of attendance immigration ll accept.

Two hours a day attendance ia a lot, on my opinion.

I'd rather exit thailand for a few months and then come back.

A friend of mine said he got a 1 year visa, I'm not sure what type of visa it was.

anyway I'm 44; do they give you a retirement visa after 50 if you don't get a pension? (I won't get a pension at that age, too early)

If you aim eventually to retire in Thailand you will need 800,000 Bht in a Thai bank or a certified monthly income of 65,000Bht. A combination of money in the bank + income totaling 800,000 is also acceptable.

One year "visas" are not available to you unless you manage to find a job with a Thai employer, go to school or get married to a Thai.

You mean if I deposit $22,222.00 (800.000 baht) into a Thai bank after age 50 I get a permanent visa; I can go in and out anytime I want?

It is a one year extension of stay. You can get a multiple re-entry permit then leave and return as many times as you want for that year.
