I have new 3BB fibre optic internet set up at my house. I have an apple macbook pro with retina laptop. When Im watching netflix on my laptop I think it would be better to see it on the big smart tv.

Using the remote I found the network setting and added the internet connection on the tv- I input the password and it says its connected.

I now can't work out how to actually watch movies on the tv. Theres a cord connecting the 3bb wifi modem box to my tv. I plugged in a Lan cable to my laptop and then tried to find the setting in the tv. There was a 'mirroring' setting but I couldnt get it to work.

any ideas?

thanks

Using the remote I found the network setting and added the internet connection on the tv- I input the password and it says its connected. OK, so you connected your TV to your home wifi signal.

Theres a cord connecting the 3bb wifi modem box to my tv. OK - now the tv has an internet connection over ethernet (LAN) also

I plugged in a Lan cable to my laptop and then tried to find the setting in the tv. - OK now the laptop has internet connection over ethernet (LAN) - what setting in the TV?

Are you hoping to wirelessly stream to the TV??

To do this you would need an apple tv or use chrome browser which, if you TV is compatible, you could 'cast' to it - Samsung smart TVs can do this.

If your trying to connect your laptop to display on your tv you need to use an HDMI cable between laptop and TV - then you will have mirroring options (depending on the age of your mac, you may not have an HDMI out - though I think all retinas have it??? If you don't then you need a mini display port to HDMI adaptor)

OR

You could try browse to the netflix website using the smart TVs internet browser, or there may even be a netflix app available to install on your tv.

It seems that I will need that cdmi cord or try to find the browser on my tv. Where would I find the browser on my tv?

What make is the TV?

For my samsung you press the 'smart hub' button, then select samsung apps - there is a netflix app available, or look for an icon called web browser

I would think there is an app for most major smart TV brands, but the way to access it may be different

we use a hdmi cable from laptop to tv. then we change the setting on the laptop in the projector settings, so that the picture only appears on the tv, and not the laptop.

we then use a wireless mouse and keyboard (600 baht from lazada) to control the mouse on the screen, and we can put the laptop to one side.

this is on windows 7

I just run an HDMI cable from my laptop to the TV!

Sure I can send pics and music and probably video streams from the laptop to the TV over the wireless network (WiFi). The TV recognised the laptop 'User' directories on my laptop but I had to change some folder securities in Windows to get that to work.

I do the exact same thing, i'm doing it now except i use an on screen virtual keyboard,

when i travel i only stays in hotels with flat screen TV's, i carry a wireless mouse and

a HDMI cable with me, my life is complete.

Another way to do it ( not real-time ) is download to a 1 or 2 TB external storage, then plug the external storage into the TV. Smart TV's recognise the connection instantaneously.

Easiest solution would be to just use an HDMI cable. Get a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and just do screen mirroring. If you are using a home theater, you can downstream the audio with a digital optical cable, as I do. Works great.
