BANGKOK, 21 February 2016 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) says it will respect the decisions of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) over the revision of the first draft charter.

Dr. Jate Sirataranont, NLA whip, said the lawmakers had already submitted their suggestions on the permanent constitution to the CDC and would respect the drafting team’s decisions regardless of the outcome. He believes the CDC will make appropriate adjustments to the draft according to the input it had been collecting.

Dr. Jate said there were two batches of suggestions sent to the CDC. The first batch contained personal comments by members of the legislature while the second batch included opinions on the composition of the senate and the prime minister.

Regarding the NLA’s work, he said the lawmakers have been working closely with the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) in a bid to accelerate the reform process.

I wouldn't expect anything less between Prayut's appointed 200-member NLA and 11-member CDC.

Hopefully the registered 48 million Thai voters will soon have an opportunity to show what respect they give the draft charter. wai2.gif
