xoxman
Hi, does anyone know if I can get sleeping pills in Tachileik without a prescription ? Thanks
orang37
There's just the greatest service available in Tachilek; the whole area of the market center is swarming with friendly drug salesmen who save you having to go into a store. They carry every drug you can think of; if one doesn't have what you want, they'll call over a friend. I was there, and asked one of the vendors ... who I must say looked thin to the point of anoxrexia ... if he had blovium phlogiston; "no problem," he said: "have." I ran through ten other names I made up; the answer was always: "have." And, what's really neat is that these vendors practice re-cycling: rather than waste all that paper on fancy packaging and inserts they re-use old boxes that viagra came in. Are they so thin from too much viagra ... I don't know ... maybe it's all the running back and forth to the warehouse, or whatever, where they keep their incredible inventory. Happy shopping ! ~o:37;
sunnyjim5
It depends what you mean by "sleeping pills" . Hypnotics and Benzodiazapenes are strictly controlled in Thailand and it is illegal to possess or attempt to import such medication into Thailand. Penalties are severe. CMKiwi
I would agree with the last post.... if you bring in some product that is strictly controlled in Thailand without declaring it or having proper authorisation it will open a big can of worms. Very risky...too risky in my book. I dont know where to look off hand but Google is your friend and Im sure you could look up and find out about Thailand restrictions on importation of drugs. And as Orang37 points out (in a rather humorous way), there is not guarantee as to what product you may get. I doubt anything (drug wise or not) in Tachileik would have been approved by the FDA....amazing looking copies but no quality control whatsoever. jobin
I can say with personal experience that booze is quite cheap in Tachiliek. Drink enough and you will sleep well. Too much and sleep forever.

They're strictly controlled in Burma too, penalties are probably more severe.
