CDC insists draft charter will not allow power relay by NCPO

BANGKOK, 25 February 2016 (NNT)-Former member of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) Banjerd Singkaneti has said the draft charter must not allow power relay by existing political groups and that it should promote national reform.

Mr. Banjerd expressed his support for the draft charter to contain clauses indicating how the country should be governed during the reform process. He also implied the draft constitution must not enable any individual to cling on to power without being elected.

As for national reconciliation, the former CDC member suggested greater emphasis on achieving national reform. He admitted it requires continuous efforts from the government.

Meanwhile, the government’s legal expert, Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krua-ngarm, and CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchupan have clarified doubts concerning the Cabinet’s proposal on periods when the constitution should be exercised.

They said the constitution will always be enforced to maintain law and order both during the normal time and under the emergency situation. The CDC Chairman also insisted that the draft charter does not allow any organization or even the National Council for Peace and Order to have more power than an elected government.

To me....it appears that Meechai does not want military influence after an election......I hope my thoughts are right and he's standing up to the generals.......Wissano may be a stumbling block and hopefully he'll disappear soon.......lets see what developes....

Denying the obvious. The point of this coup/constitution exercise is to make sure that the "good people" always have more power than an elected government.

Meechai is a junta lackey.

I suspect that you will be disappointed.

That’s right!

the draft charter does not allow any organization or even the National Council for Peace and Order to have more power than an elected government.

This implies that the military will have power equal to an elected government.

In reality the military does not pledge to uphold the constitution1 and deems its own sovereignty to be separate and superior to the Thai people's sovereignty. As such, any guarantee that the next constitution will empower only the Thai people is a sham.

1The Thai military power is somewhat similar to the The Chinese People's Liberation Army that pledges its allegiance to an elite organization (the Chinese Communist Party) rather than to the Chinese constitution.

Well, well!!! Remember the Shutdown Bangkok fanatics who were clamoring for the overthrow of an elected government? This is the result of your "superior vision for the country",

Oh, Yingluck is bad bad...! The rice scheme is a sham... But, the rubber and Palm oil scams of the Suthepistas and Abhisitas is OK because they are the true Democrats.

Suthep, the leader of Shutdown Bangkok, ex-Minister of Agriculture who resigned to avoid being indicted for corruption, that is the one the rabid Anti-Thaksinistas and Anti-Yingluckistas chose as their beacon to move the country forward...

This is your forward, Happy now?
