Baht Bus Routes, who knew, who knows?

There is a small number near or on the door (not the three digit BB number) of baht buses and they (are suppose to) indicate the actual route and where the BB will turn, examples, 5, 6 and 7 around pattaya tai and soi bhoakhow. Anyone has the actual low down and info and can you really trust it?

Actually, it's not a myth. The table below shows the designated routes.

Of course, I'm not suggesting that the drivers adhere to the supposedly designated routes, but the original "design" of the baht bus system had these routes allocated.

The following pdf gives some interesting insight into the Pattaya transport system, particularly baht busses. Those that claim to know all about them might learn a thing or two.

There are certain designated routes which most Pattaya residents know well but as most Pattaya residents also know well the drivers are a law unto themselves and go wherever they want when they want so it is always advisable to point or ask which direction if in doubt.

Going east on South Road to Second Road At Second Road, most baht busses will turn left onto Second Road. However, sometimes they may continue east on South Road going toward Third Road or they may turn right going to Jomtien.

Going north on Second Road from South Road Most baht busses will continue north on Naklua Road from the Dolphin Roundabout (Second Road and North Road intersection). However, sometimes they may turn east at Central Road or they may proceed to North Road and turn either east toward Third road or west toward Beach road. If they turn west to Beach Road, they will continue on the main circuit until they reach the South Road/Second Road intersection.

Going south on Naklua Road Most baht busses will turn west on North Road at the Dolphin Roundabout and will follow the main circuit until they reach the South Road and Second Road intersection. However, sometimes they may turn east onto North Road going toward Third Road.

Going north on Jomtien Beach Road Most busses go north until they reach Thappraya Road - where they must turn right. They will then continue on Thappraya Road going under the Third Road overpass to the intersection with Pratumnak Road. There, they will turn right onto Pratumnak Road going north to South Road (at South Road, Pratumnak Road becomes Second Road). At South Road, they will most often continue north on Second Road. However, not very often, they may turn right on South Road going east toward Third Road.

Going to Jomtien Beach Road from South Road/Second Road intersection Next to the school yard at the South Road/Second Road intersection, there will usually be a line of parked baht busses. The driver will wait until the baht bus is full before departing - they tend to fill rather quickly. These busses will go south on Pratumnak Road turning left onto Thappraya Road - continuing on to Jomtien Beach Road where they must turn south on Jomtien Beach Road. Dongtan Police substation is located at this intersection. Most baht busses will go south on Jomtien Beach Road as far as Chaiyapruk Road.

East/West between Second Road and Sukhumvit Road Baht busses travel regularly in both directions on South Road, Central Road, and North Road.

If the driver should change from your expected routing, it may be necessary to get off, pay, and then catch another baht bus going the direction you want to travel.

No, you cannot trust them, if the driver thinks it will benefit him to take a short cut he will just stop and ask you to leave the bus.

If you are going down Second Road towards the Dolphin roundabout, he could be turning into Beach Road, or going straight ahead to Naklua, the bus colour is the same.

Christ Man, if I followed your directions, I'd wind up in Sattahip..........Thanx for making my head spin, but I actually gleened a bit of truth in what you say above (like your last para)

The Wikipedia entry for Ubon has a list of Songthew routes. Maybe look there to see if it confirms with reality. You can always ask the driver if he goes by the place you're trying to get to.

I have lived in Ubon Ratchathani for about one year. Yes, they follow the route they are suppose to.

I was about to start my own thread - FREE BAHT BUS TRIP !

yesterday I was on a trip from Jomtien beach to Royal Garden. Until the lights at the top of the hill on Thrappaya there were 3 passengers.

the 2 others got off and I was on my own in the back and then, when we got to Boys Town on 2nd road the Baht bus slows and he makes a left to head through to Beach Road,

I gave the buzzer a mega blast and he stopped - being used to this nonsense and to avoid trouble I just pay and walk away - I started to walk to the front of the truck and he shot off...

Since I was barely 300 mtrs away from RG Plaza brilliant I say.....first time ever for me !

on the side of the bus it's written in Thai too, the only one I see is the route 5 CharoenratPattana Village to Najomtien, having been in Pattaya for almost 10 years now, I never figured where the village is,
