CDC affirms charter drafting has been based on problems of Thailand

BANGKOK, 26 February 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission has affirmed that the charter drafting process is based on the problems Thailand has faced.

CDC Chairman Meechai Ruchupan said that the charter drafters have seriously taken into consideration the problems Thailand has been experiencing while working on the draft Constitution.

Mr. Meechai’s statement was heard during his lecture about the draft charter and the sustainable peace at Debsirin Nonthaburi School.

He stated that problems which the CDC has taken into consideration included such issues as widespread social inequality and mushrooming corruption, all of which need to be addressed as soon as possible otherwise they will have long-term impact on the country, the lack of discipline among members of the public and the lagging law enforcement in Thailand.

The CDC Chairman insisted that if the new draft charter is put into effect, Thailand will be better off and on its path to improvement.

He added that the new Constitution will also allow voters who just turn 18 before the election day to be eligible to cast their votes – a more flexible rule when compared to the existing law which only allows those who have turned 18 years old before the first of January of the year of the election to be able to go to the polling booths.

One would think that after 12 military coups and 20 constitutions that the military might be considered a problem to a sustainable democracy.

Wonder why a junta-appointed charter drafting committee didn't address the power of such an elite organization over Thai society.

But then the CDC merely followed the junta's agenda for the new charter, so maybe the junta simply forgot itself.

Sometimes even an absolute ruler thinks its superiority is the norm. wai2.gif

I just read the Pheu Thai article in a Bangkok Newspaper about the new constitution. It seems it will ham string them from ruling as a majority government. Good article. Sadly the people will only have access to what the dream teams running around the country at the behest of the junta will explain to them.

^^^

dead on,

Drafting process based on orders from the NCPO

Corruption among the military, police, and business elite will not be addressed.

To even claim that this junta CDC cares about social inequality is the most blatant lie as the entire purpose of this draft is to cement the power of the elites into the legal framework of the country....

If you can call a constitution by a military junta after a coup, "legal", that is.... coffee1.gif

There's ONLY one real problem Thailand has faced and needs to change so their future Democracy could flourish, but that seems to be the only issues that are NOT allowed to be discussed. Hundreds of years of ingrained serfdom, manipulation and brainwashing of schoolchildren to believe in "False Prophets" just might need to be reformed first.
