Fishing boats in Ranong examined, no illegal labor found

RANONG, 26 February 2016 (NNT) – A combined force of related officials in the southern province of Ranong has conducted an inspection of fishing boats as part of the effort to eradicate illegal labor and human trafficking in the fishing industry.

The boat inspection procedure was led by the Ranong provincial administration and the Thai-Myanmar Border Fishery Coordination Center of the Third Naval Area Command.

Other related agencies engaged in the operation included the Provincial Office of Labor, Office of Labor Protection and Welfare, Office of Employment, Marine Office, Office of Fisheries, Office of Social Development and Human Security and the Internal Security Operations Command.

The authorities examined five fishing vessels operating in the Andaman Sea near Koh Chang and Koh Phayam of Ranong. Boat operators and crew members were asked for their legal documents in order to determine if they were in compliance with the Labor Ministry’s regulations.

As a result, no illegal labor, child labor or any illegal practices were discovered on any of the boats. This operation was in line with the urgent policy to prevent and eliminate human trafficking in Thailand in hopes of removing the country from the US watch list.

Being that they gave warning last week that they would be inspecting it only makes sense that they would find nothing. Also when you consider that there are hundreds of boats and they only checked 5! Need I say more

Wow, a combined force of related officials inspected 5 fishing vessels. They should be very proud of themselves.

Any inspection by Thai.... anything... ought to be viewed as unbelievable. This corrupt state is marred by pretenders.

Imagine if by some amazing feat of operational planning every fishing boat was examined at exactly the same time with no advance warning would any illegal labour be found, officially found that is ?

So the authorities spent a day on the briney

Must have been a nice day trip for them

Stopping 5 times for a quick chat with the locals

Purely a "dog and pony show" for the campaigners against slave labor... A noble cause, but with so much money involved in the fishing industry in Thailand, it will be nigh on impossible to police...coffee1.gif

Couldn't be done - the fishery officials don't have enough relatives!

Then the only way to make them sit up and take notice is to ban imports of Thai seafood. Thailand can fool itself all it likes but internationally, the cat's out of the bag http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2016/feb/25/slavery-trafficking-thai-fishing-industry-environmental-justice-foundation

Also, Obama's just signed a bill banning imports made by slaves. 'Bout time.

Yep!!! Things seem to be "heating up."

Obama revives anti-slavery law to target Thailand's seafood exports

not found nor looked for

Much like the lawyers adage in court, never ask someone on the witness stand a question

that you don't know the answer to. Here it is don't check a boat unless you are sure you

will find no violations. tongue.png

Thai grandstanding at its best. We need a group picture of 25 Thai officials all lined up and smiling at their achievement. Some guy in front can hold up a fish, the prize catch of the day.

Got to agree with all the above, nice little works jolly with absolutely no danger of catching anyone.....

Spot on, and considering the six/seven groups of different officials and the numbers in each group there must have been 50 people or so to check 5 boats.

WOW!! talk about UNDERWHELMING.

Then there's the restaurant bills for the several groups for lunch and drinks for this amazing effort, value for money huhwhistling.gif
