SUKHOTHAI, 26 February 2016 (NNT) – Joint military training between the Singapore Army and the Royal Thai Army has been organized successfully in Sukhothai province as part of the two countries’ effort to promote military cooperation.

Thai Army Chief Gen Teerachai Narkvanich and his Singaporean counterpart Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong presided over the closing ceremony of the joint exercise, codenamed Exercise Kocha Singa 2016. The training this year was hosted by Thailand at the tactical training field of the Third Army Area in Ban Dan Lan Hoi district of Sukhothai. The objectives were to provide trainees with field knowledge, encourage an exchange of experiences and cultures and foster a good relationship between the two armies.

The first part of the training was a combined training exercise, taking place from February 17-21, while the latter part was a field training exercise, held from February 23-26. A total of 758 officers took part in the activities, divided into 625 from the Thai Army and 133 from the Singapore Army.

Gen Teerachai stated that Exercise Kocha Singa 2016 has paved the way for the enhancement of Thai soldiers’ capabilities while strengthening their relations with their Singaporean counterparts. He complimented the Thai trainees on their professionalism and outstanding performance, adding that Thailand is looking forward to joining in next year’s exercise, to be hosted by Singapore.

I wonder if the RTM troops are aware of RTM's quick surrender to the Japanese in 1942, the Japanese had a clear invasion path through the Malay Peninsula into the heart of Singapore? Singapore remained under Japanse rule until 1944. I dount Singapore is too concerned about the strength of its relations with Thailand.

I don't think that Singapore has any room for a military training area, which is probably why they come here (and pay) to use the training areas.

Incorrect. They have training areas and they have military bases. They dont pay to use Thai "training areas." The Thais and Sings have a long history of military exchanges and exercise.

" A total of 758 officers took part in the activities, divided into 625 from the Thai Army and 133 from the Singapore Army." Must have been a talkfest if they had no need for 'Other ranks'.
