Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra greets crowds of supporters Friday outside the Supreme Court in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — A leader of the ruling junta said that soldiers have been dispatched to monitor Yingluck Shinawatra not to harass her as alleged by a colleague of the former prime minister, but to protect her.

Responding to a claim that uniformed soldiers trailed Yingluck and took photos of her without her permission, deputy junta chief Prawit Wongsuwan suggested that they probably did so because she is attractive.

She must be terrified having men taking her picture without her permission. Good thing they are not really stalkers and actually assigned to watch her. Teeranai needs to learn better English and understand the meaning of what is written. This article has nothing to do with being a stalker.

UN Women rights tribunal should summon this Deputy Prime minister for his lewd comment on a Former Woman Prime Minister. It is a shameless comments towards a rightfully elected woman leader. And public anger will grow for sure towards Junta.

May be starting of some bad political situation ?

Probably took pics because she is the last elected PM and they voted for her!

Well, thank goodness there are so few pretty women in Thailand otherwise the military really would be stretched trying to "protect" them all.....................

children leading children, kinda like a kindergarden playground

Ooooh.....such swagger from the little big man. He's really hitting his stride now. We'll probably see him riding a buffalo bare-chested next...

The soldiers are there to intimidate Yingluck and her followers, they are not there to provide protection. Taking pictures of her and her followers for future possible legal action.

How old are those soldiers who fancy this 48-years old mother?

Around 70-years, the same age as this Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan?

I bet, he thinks, this is funny!coffee1.gif

Why come up try to cover up the bleeding obvious? If she needed or wanted protection she would have her own people.

Spying, recording who she is with and her supporters. what are these big bad military guy's afraid of?

This is whats cute about Thailand

Well that would explain why no one takes any pics of the General.

It's officially 2 of the 3Ps are comedians. Waiting for the last P to join in the act.

Getting rid of native English speaking teachers will make news reports like this even more ludicrous than what they are now...

.....'tailing' her maybe.....she is being prosecuted for an uncountable number of crimes....

....as for 'great looks'......skin deep......and showing wear.......

...as for a 'sincere statement'....infantile.....

Wheels are round and this one is starting to turn slowly but surely. The only question is if anyone will be able to stop it when its gathered speed.

isnt it sickening how the junta acts?

Probably took pics because she is the last elected PM and they voted for her!

or perhaps because she was the last elected PM to be removed from office by a court for abusing power?

She does have her own people. She and they are being watched for obvious reasons. Like it or not it's what the West calls surveillance. Career criminals are often subject to this.

If this is an accurate report of what the DPM actually said then I am appalled.

Do you think having your picture taking by some soldiers, and let's face it Thais just love taking photos, is more or less intimidating than:

  • blowing whistles at you
  • throwing contaminated blood at you or your property
  • burning your picture in a mock coffin outside your home
  • throwing excrement at your property
  • machine gunning your elderly parents' house
  • threatening to kidnap your daughters
  • lobbing grenades, duds or lives, at your propoerty

Just wondering where this fits on your ranking of intimidating opponents?

The quote is accurate - but perhaps the DPM was taking a leaf from the Donald J Trump book of Diplomacy and Reconciliation.

An example of the more Thai than the Thais themselves kind of apologist: here speaking for others irrespective of what they say or don't say themselves.

No, Mr Baerboxer, the man himself said it's because they are 'protecting' her whilst taking her photograph "probably" because she is pretty.

Well, thank goodness there are so few pretty women in Thailand otherwise the military really would be stretched trying to "protect" them all.....................

She isn't unattractive, but she's like a bucket of sand at the beach in Thailand as far as looks go.

Then again, beauty is always in the eye of the beer-holder.

Her brother.

Probably took pics because she is the last elected PM and they voted for her!

or perhaps because she was the last elected PM to be removed from office by a court for abusing power?

Yes, that's pretty rare in Thailand. Normally there are unelected people in charge that no court can remove.

Getting rid of native English speaking teachers will make news reports like this even more ludicrous than what they are now...

Nah. They get more entertaining by the day.

If they weren't so funny I would never bother visiting TVF. I doubt any of us would.
