After being in Thailand for 10 years I plan on going back to Canada and staying there for 6 months every year and then returning back to Thailand. I am married and will get a Non O Visa and was thinking that I would get it for 3 months and then applying for the extension on a Marriage after 60 days with a multiple entry Visa thereby not having to go to a Consulate every year. I am leaving in April and my extension of stay finishes in July and it will be cancelled when I leave the country. I will arrive back in Thailand in October 2016 and could go to Immigration in January 2017 to apply for the extension of stay based on Marriage and get a multiple entry and then renew it on my return. Would this be the best way to do this in order to avoid going to a consulate every year? I do not have enough funds for a Retirement Visa. Also would I need a return ticket to Canada after getting the Non O in 2016 as I would like to get the return ticket to Thailand in April of 2017. Thank you for your help.

Generally your plan could work.

in January 2017 to apply for the extension of stay based on Marriage and get a multiple entry and then renew it on my return

The extension as such is not multiple or single.

You need a single re-entry permit before leaving Thailand.

"Single" as you plan to re-enter only once in October, cheaper (1000).

Will you travel back and forth with your wife?

Also would I need a return ticket to Canada after getting the Non O in 2016

No return ticket required, you just have to make the airline aware of the re-entry permit and your extension of stay.

But be aware that oneways are expensive in most cases.

And tickets FROM Thailand more expensive than TO Thailand.

A return Canada(Okt) - Thailand - Canada(Apr) might(!) be cheaper. Check it.

(even if such long span bookings are not the cheapos)

My extension of stay will be cancelled when I leave would a re-entry permit still be good in October after receiving the Non O in Canada?

Before you return from Canada you should get a single entry non-o visa from the embassy or one of the consulates there then apply for a one year extension. There would be no need for a return ticket if you get the visa.

Once you have the new extension you would just need a single re-entry permit for your trip back and apply for new extension at the same time the following year along with a new re-entry permit.
