Here is a worrying article from the USA

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/859829?nlid=101243_2824&src=WNL_mdplsnews_160304_mscpedit_nurs&uac=149202AN&spon=24&impID=1011426&faf=1#vp_1

Within the USA antibiotic use is (in the main) controlled. In Thailand usage is not controlled and antibiotics are grossly abused by the medical profession and the general public who are able to self prescribe and purchase antibiotics from hundreds of small pharmacies

Is there any central surveillance of the incidence of HAI or Community acquired antibiotic resistant infection in Thailand ?

I would, if I knew how, urge the Thai Health Minister to take urgent action before disaster occures

I have actually found that good doctors and dentists here are reluctant to prescribe these days so I think some with education about the issue are listening.

If the beef , chicken and pork is being fed massive amounts of antibiotics ( 70 % of worlds antibiotics or more used for animals to keep them alive in their new unhealthy habitat ) your still getting a good dose if you eat these foods .

Not really the same as being prescribed a 5-10 day antibiotic cycle for the common cold (which is extremely common practice here).

I was on a soapbox for this for years......go into almost anyones medical box here and you will find half a dozen or more unused or half used strips of anti-biotics. Many Thais I know will dispense them for a headache one or two at a time.......or take the same one everytime............kids give them to each other at schools. Maybe they should be way more expensive....

The hospitals here seem to really give out antibiotics for so much . I will spare you all of the stories of times I am offered antibiotics at hospital but just say " no thanks "

I am allergic to all known antibiotics since 2012. It came suddenly and with no previous warnings. I am 69 and worked in farming since I was 15. Have been vegetarian now vegan since the mid 1970's, my own choice. Its not just meat but things like fish sauce that probably contain traces of antibiotics. On farms traces of long time ago previously used antibiotics can remain in plastic feeding systems years after antibiotics have been stopped, and feeding systems "cleaned ?!" Fortunately I have found an alternative to antibiotics which works well with me, as I am not squeamish, but other people often ridicule or even use abusive language when they ask what it is and I explain to them. The only thing as previous writers have mentioned is to avoid / deny unnecessary use.

Being allergic to all known antibiotics is indeed unfortunate and you must be a very rare case.

Do you have any links to research papers, published in reputed scientific/medical journals which support the use of this alternative to antibiotics.

sunnyjim5 Thank you for your interest in alternatives to antibiotics. I am an ordinary person, not a doctor or chemist etc. My work in farming has allowed me to live and work in many countries. I do not smoke or drink. The reason for the use of an alternative to antibiotics, came from my hospitalisation in 2012 with acute and allergic bronchitis, complicated by what turned out to be my first two TIA's. On arrival at hospital I was unable to breathe, in spasms and had a breathing tube forced in my throat. I am told that the doctors attending had given up trying to treat as I was not responding to whatever they administered and my condition regarding breathing was becoming worse.. A long time friend who had accompanied me to hospital asked if they could try an alternative method and during a brief period of consciousness I agreed. Before I go in to more detail I will now tell you what treatment was given and how it worked with me, not only in 2012 but since that time, you can then decide if you would like to hear more. The treatment was with urine. All I will say further is that it saved my life then and has done since. I do hope you will continue to have an interest.

Very interesting ! I am glad this very unusual treatment saved your life.

Are there any reputable published reports about this unusual cure to be found in scientific/medical journals?

To sunnyjim5 - I have not read journals or reports but will ask my friend and look myself and let you know. I had heard of it back in the 60's and the 70's when visiting India. The first time I used it in the hospital it was suggested by a long term friend who is a "healer", meaning she uses natural remedies as well as acupuncture, Chinese cupping, corzaar ( not sure of spelling - a form of massage with wood - is used to remove toxins ). Any information on the effects of urine on myself are detailed and well recorded - that is because of my work as a farm consultant and working within the industry in different countries since 1960. I look to what I see / feel rather than read journals first - once experienced then I look at other information.

Thanks but in the absence of any scientific proof this must be regarded as an "alternative" therapy which should be avoided.
