NLA accepts Prince of Songkla University Draft Act

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 5 March 2016 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has unanimously agreed with the Prince of Songkla University Draft Act and formed a 15-member committee to revise the draft within a 7-day timeframe.

The NLA sitting on Friday voted 182-0 with 3 abstentions to accept in principle the Prince of Songkla University Draft Act. The new act is hoped to make Prince of Songkla University more independent and allows the school to improve its management.

The legislature also established a committee comprising 15 members to revise the draft. The revision process will take no longer than 7 days.

Prior to the vote, Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Teerakiat Jaroensettasin had informed the assembly that the new act was meant to enhance the Thai education system in accordance with economic and social alterations.
