Police arrest man for Phuket ‘pocket-knife’ pharmacy robberies

PHUKET: Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for the robbery of two pharmacies in Phuket during the past week. Both holdups were carried out by threatening staff with a pocket knife.

PHUKET: Following the tsunami scare triggered by the 7.9 Magnitude earthquake off Sumatra on Wednesday night, Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada is calling on all beachfront hotels to voluntarily provide emergency evacuation safe zones for all people in danger areas along Phuket’s coast.

BANGKOK — Thanat Khoman, who as Thailand's foreign minister helped cement his country's close relations with the United States during the Vietnam War, has died at age 101, his family announced. His death was attributed to natural causes.

Philippines to impound suspected N. Korean ship, deport crew

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The Philippines will impound a suspected North Korean cargo ship docked at a port northwest of Manila and eventually deport its North Korean crewmen in compliance with tough new U.N. Sudanese Islamist figure al-Turabi dies at 84

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — Hassan al-Turabi, the Sudanese Islamist who played a key role in the 1989 coup that brought President Omar al-Bashir to power and who once hosted Osama bin Laden, died Saturday at the age of 84.
