Ketchup

Featured Replies

What's the best ketchup you've ever had in Thailand?

Are you happy with the stuff available in your local shop or do you have to spring for more expensive imported ones from Villa or Foodland?

I tend not to reach for the ketchup, often preferring brown sauce or something even more spicy, so it's not really in my ken. I have always found the venerable Heinz to be a bit on the sweet side and after a holiday in Europe my Thai lady - a ketchup fanatic - now agrees.

Looking forward to your recommendations.

Sorry, I'm a total philistine...Heinz still wins for me

Heinz is the winner of Ketchups.

Golden Mountain beats Heinz as it's less sweet. Nice and thick, like Heinz, but a far better taste.

Rosa ranks as the worst brand name for me as it's too runny and tastes cheap. I'm sure own brand ketchups from Tesco and Makro would also be disgusting.

I make my own one. I buy all the time 5 L from Makro and add curry, pepper, .....!!!

What do you do with 5L of ketchup?

I use Rosa but very seldom use it as a sauce alone, I usually use it to make barbecue sauce, seafood sauce with joresradish or in other recipes that require a little ketchup.

Not sure which is the best, but I do know that whenever I get those Ketchup packets from McDonald's, they go straight in the garbage!annoyed.gif

We are a family. 5L hold around 4-6 month. And I don't want mix every 1-2 weeks a new bottle.

But you can buy 2-3 bottles, mix it and put it in a big coke or water bottle.

I buy the mega expensive imported Heinz ketchup in the squeezy bottle.

When empty I fill it up with the local Heinz in the bottle.

I just like the squeezy bottles.

  • 3 weeks later...

I make my own. Tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, garlic, and red pepper.
