Although they remain publicly unnamed, nine businessmen in the timber industry were summoned to appear at the Tbong Khmum provincial court today for alleged deforestation crimes and illegal business dealings, according to officials. Provincial prosecutor Heang Sopheak, who has been investigating the timber stocks of logging tycoon Lim Bunna, said the court has already issued the warrants, but would not identify any names of those who had received them.

“They all will come to clarify to the court from this week on. We don’t know when this matter will end, because there are many cases,” he said. Eng Hy, spokesman for the National Gendarmerie and the National Anti-Deforestation Committee, said the court’s standard operating procedure was to not identify anyone who had been summoned.
