Suspect Arrested for Child’s Rape and Murder

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Siem Reap province’s Pouk district, according to police officials. The victim’s aunt found the girl hanging by the neck from a window in her room on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, 25-year-old Sar Kosal, was arrested after assisting the aunt and other neighbors in untying the girl in a manner police referred to as suspicious. He will be sent to court today for additional questioning.

Tep Pumsen, Pouk district police chief, said the victim’s aunt found the girl’s body when she returned home from the market. “The victim’s parents live in Siem Reap town, but [the victim] came to live and learn with her aunt in Pouk district.” he said. “On Saturday afternoon, when her aunt came back from the market, she could not find her niece.”
