Hopefully an easy question, I'm applying for a credit card and had to send a copy of my work permit to the bank, they have just contacted me sayings its out of date, my understanding is that it remains current as long as I'm employed (by the company who organised the WP) and I have a valid NON-IMM B visa. They dont update the WP every year?

  • Work permits are issued for 1 or 2 years and have to be renewed even if you stay with the same employer.

If you are working with an expired work permit you are working illegally and you and your employer can be penalised.

If you have been renewing the WP every year, then why would you have a new Non-B Visa ?

Normally, the process is that you request a one year extension of your old NonB, based on having a WP; then you have your WP extended accordingly. The dates on the WP should line up with your visa extension date.

The renwal stamps are in the next pages with registar stamp and valid until date, maybe the CC company are only looking at the first main page with photo and details which would show an expiry date of the first year you were employed
