Visa run in Udon Thani/Nong Khai

Featured Replies

Hi there,

A friend of mine needs to leave and re-enter Thailand to get a new 30 day tourist visa. He has an EU passport so I think I'm right in saying there's no application process it's just an automatic 30 day visa upon entering Thailand right? Has anyone done this from Udon Thani? How long does it take and what's the process? All tips and recommendations welcome. Thanks :(

There are no 30 day tourist visas.

30 day "visa exempt" entries are available to those carrying passports from G7 countries( Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.) All others receive 15 days if they qualify for a visa exempt entry.

You need to state what nationality he has to get details.

(Fortunately) there is still no EU nationality.

Has anyone done this from Udon Thani?

Thousands and thousands. Question pops up about every other day.

When did he enter Thailand, what is his current status (entered and did not do an extension yet)?

He could once (one time) extend his stay at an immigration office for 1900 Baht without the border run hassle.

He's British but has already got an extension. He's flying back to the UK in a few weeks so doesn't need to apply for a 60 day visa but just literally leave and come back again

In short:

No problem. UK citizens stamp out at the Thai checkpoint, bus over the bridge, apply for at visa on arrival issued on the spot at the Laos checkpoint (cost 1500 Baht or 30 USD).

Get stamped into Laos. Spend some time or not (visit Vientiane or not).

Then turns around, stamp out of Laos, bus over bridge, get 30 day visa exempt stamp at the Thai checkpoint.

Done.

Many detailed reports in the forum.

Have you actually done this, i believe 30 day visa exempt is only issued when you fly into Suvarnabhumi , or

Bangkok International airport, enter Thailand through a border crossing gets you 15 days.

Can someone please clarify as i've never got a 30 day visa exempt stamp at Nong Kai.

Sorry, failed to say i have an Australian Passport, we are tough, we are strong, we are manly,

we deserve 30 days.

Australia isn't a G7 country, you don't get 30 days you get 15.

Op where is your friend currently. If in bkk just get cgeapest return flight. Preferably to place he does not need visa. There are many. Fly back with onward flight. Easy.
