Backup emails on Mac

Featured Replies

Hello, maybe someone can help me on this.

I am using Mac, OSX 10.11 and Outlook 2016 (office 365). I have no issues with Gmail or Live but i am using also a company email based on Pop3, which once downloading into my outlook delete the mails from the server.

I am looking a way to backup this emails from my mac. I know with windows that you can backup the .pst file but i understand that Mac is not using the .pst file but .olm file.

Without backing up my emails,if i format my Mac and reinstal office, i won't get my previous emails anymore.

Try Mail>Preferences>Accounts> Select the account you want>uncheck the box for "remove messages from server once dowloaded"

Yes I know that but what I mean is that emails are removed regularly from the server by the company, not only by me (probably to save space on the server).

What i am looking for is a way to backup the emails already downloaded in my inbox.

I have emails dating back to 2007 or 2008 on my Gmail account... every once in a while I delete a pile of them ... the ones I thought I would get back to and never do!

But I also delete every day stuff and junk immediately ...

I tried POP3 once, but just doubles everything up... so disabled it...

Really not sure what else to suggest...

Yes, I actually already found it out. I am using Outlook 2016 not 2011 but it is similar.

File / export / then you save a data file .olm.

I did it. Saved the .olm in an external file. Formated my mac, re-installing Outlook 2016. Then File / import, select the saved .olm file and got all my emails back in Outlook.
