BANGKOK: -- Two members of a paramilitary ranger unit providing protection to teachers were killed and three others injured in a roadside bomb blast in Narathiwat’s Chanae district Wednesday.

However, four teachers who were travelling in a car escaped unhurt although their car was damaged by a fallen concrete power pole.

The violent incident believed perpetrated by southern militants occurred at about 3 pm on a road in Aigross road in Tambon Chanae as the 10-member ranger unit was escorting the four teachers of Bai Aigross school, including the school director Ms Sirimas Thavornmat, back to their homes from school.

The ranger unit headed by Sub-Lt Piyakorn Woonbua was split up in two groups with one riding on a leading pickup truck and the other on a second car on the back of the convoy with the teachers’ car sandwiched in the middle.

Travelling on the road about one kilometer from the school, a band of militants who laid in wait behind bushes detonated a bomb tied to a power pole causing it to crash right on the lead vehicle.

The roof of the pickup caved in crushing to death Sub-Lt Piyakorn and the driver, Sakchai Punthong. Three other rangers in the truck were also injured.

The teachers’ car sustained damage on the roof but the driver managed to escape and drive the car back to school.

seems someone did not get the message:

Gen Aksara: peace talks with southern separatists are progressing

The M peoples should not stand for the carnage,

Yet apathy is flourishing in the south, Tit for Tat is not the solution.

Fear of getting involved has to be overcome,

I really think its time to withdraw all the troops from the south and leave them to it there have been far too many army personnel killed and so little gained .
