Admiral Prajun rejects to acknowledge defamation charge

BANGKOK: -- Admiral Prajun Tampratheep, a former close aide to Privy Council president General Prem Tinsulanonda, today turned himself in to the Technology Crime Suppressionn Division (TCSD) police after he was summoned to acknowledge charges leveled against him by the Royal Thai Police.

He was accompanied by his lawyer Mr Nitithorn Lumlua.

Adm Prajun, however, rejected acknowledgement of the charges, and asked the TCSD investigators to revise the issuance of warrant for him to acknowledge the charges, pending the investigation of the Office of the Ombudsman.

He said after the Ombudsman finishes its finding, he is ready to come again to acknowledge the charges.

The Royal Thai Police charged him of defamation of the Royal Thai Police, and violation of the computer crime law after he was alleged to have posted a remark on the social media revealing that an unnamed army general had alleged of involvement in the trading of police positions.

Admiral Prajun said he called on Gen Prem last Friday to report him about the matter and he told the Privy Council chairman not to worry about his issue.

He asked Gen Prem to leave the job of fighting corruption with him as it is his duty to perform.

Gen Prem then blessed him good luck, Adm Prajun said.

Earlier Adm Prajun said he had no grudges whatsoever with Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

The admiral was also said to be a strong advocate to reform the police.

He had earlier said he would step down, over a case which former army chief and now deputy defence minister was alleged to get involved in irregularities in the controversial Rajabhakti museum park construction.

Gen Prawit dismissed allegations of position trading in the Royal Thai Police.

This could get messy for the government. Serves them right for trying to shoot the messenger instead of simply agreeing to investigate the allegations! The arrogance of the PM and his Deputy are beyond belief.

Ironically the day after Prawit made his stout defence of the reputation, integrity etc of the BIB the media carried a story that three senior officers, two Lt. Gen and a Maj. Gen had been transferred to the Metropolitan Police Bureau pending an allegation they had solicited a Bt. 2.5 Million bribe over an amulet case..

Indeed if this is true:

Gen Prem then blessed him good luck, Adm Prajun said.

Last week the Post carried an article suggesting that, despite Prawit's assurance to the contrary, there could be a political element to this involving a power struggle between the ' new elite ' of which Prawit is one and the ' old elite ' such as the Admiral.

Great, that's all the country needs if the elite are now falling out with each other.

There is a good article in the Washington post today, just shows some of the things going on here.

There is no such thing as position buying, never has been....perish the thought......what a thing to say...

He looks about 70; don't these people ever retire and dig the garden?
