PHUKET: -- The Phuket provincial administration has imposed new safety measures at all firing ranges in the province after a foreign tourist shot himself to death in an apparent suicide at a firing range.

Governor Chamroen Tippayapongthada said Thursday that he would call a meeting with operators of four firing ranges in the province to discuss safety measures at the premises following an apparent suicide at one of the ranges on Wednesday.

The victim, 39-year old Andres Podra, from Estonia visited a firing range for target shootings on Wednesday with a trainer. But after having fired six shots at the paper targets, he suddenly turned the handgun on his right temper and pulled the trigger.

The trainer later said he saw the incident and tried to intervene but failed. The victim fell on the ground and was dead. A note for his Thai girlfriend was found in his pocket, said the police, adding that he would summon the woman and the victim’s friends for interrogation.

Mr Nirun Koisomboon, secretary-general of amateur shooting club in Phuket, said that his firing range has tighten up screening of visitors. Those who appear to be drunk or to be depressed is not allowed to practice shooting, he added.

The shooting range in question has an advertising hoarding that shows two kids who appear to be about 8 years old brandishing a rifle and an automatic pistol.

I'm sure the safety rules in place are more than adequate. blink.pngblink.pngblink.png

As adequate as they are in other countries, including NZ, also. And the children that you refer to are certainly certainly not "brandishing' anything.
