NBTC urges digital TV to be more ethical

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) - The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has met with digital TV operators to set a framework for the media’s ethics and responsibilities. All digital TV operators are required to make their own ethical standards in a written form and set up a group to regulate one another.

NBTC Member Supinya Klangnarong said on Thursday after the meeting that the meeting agreed to set up a mechanism to examine complaints about media ethics.

The NBTC therefore suggested digital TV operators consider the complaints from three to 30 days depending on the importance of the issue.

If the digital TV operators could not decide on the complaints, the NBTC would forward the complaints to the media organization that each digital TV operator was a member of so that it would decide if the digital TV operators had breached media code of ethics.

The meeting also agreed with the NBTC who proposed that the budget from the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for the Public Interest be spent to support self-regulation among the media.
