Strikes, Increased Wages and Electricity Costs Worry Japanese Investors

Illegal strikes, the minimum wage and high electricity costs were the subjects discussed during the 13th annual meeting between Cambodia and Japan last week, according to the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC).

The meeting at the CDC was attended by representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan Business Association of Cambodia and Japanese investors with about 150 people attending in total.

Kumamaru Yuji, Japan’s ambassador to Cambodia, told the meeting that Japan appreciated the government’s help in reducing illegal strikes and facilitating smooth working communications, as well as the new union law that will soon be adopted.
