I am working in Dubai and am classified as non-resident British citizen. I just wondered what my options would be if i were to lose my job. I guess if I lose my job would I by default go back to being UK resident or would I be like Tom Hanks in Terminal in limbo?

I am 40 yrs old and married to my thai wife who lives in thailand with our kids. Would I be entitled to apply for this type of visa as I wouldn't be able to show 3 months income of thb 65k if I lost my job, although I do have £20k savings.

Secondly, would I have to come back to the UK to get the visa or could I apply for it in KL for example?

Be grateful for some advice to this unusual situation.

Thanks

If you have residence status in the UAE you should be able to apply for a a single entry non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai. I not you could enter on a visa exempt entry and apply for a conversion to a non immigrant visa at Bangkok immigration or go out and get the single entry non-o visa in Laos or Penang Malaysia. Kl is not a good choice for getting any visa.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa you could apply for a one year extension of stay at immigration based upon marriage. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months or proof of 40k baht income.

If 50 or over you could also apply for an extension based upon retirement by show showing 800k baht in a Thai bank for 60 days or proof of 65k baht income.

Getting a single entry non-o visa before traveling if possible is the best option. Then as I wrote you just need 400k baht in the bank for 2 months to apply for the extension.

You mentioned the 65k baht income so I assumed you might be 50 or over.

thanks again, I obviously misunderstood as I thought according to the UK consulate website that 65k was a requirement for having a non imm O according to this document on their website

http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/pdf/v3-extra-evidence-for-ni-visas-2016.pdf

It makes no mention of 400k being an option on the first paragraph on page 4, hence I struggled to see how someone in my possible future circumstances without any regular income but below 50 could apply for a non immigrant O visa.

Appreciate you clarifying something for me looks very unclear according to the official documentation.

You have identified an error in the Hull consulates website !

Not surprising but to be fair the Thai Embassy's (London) is not known for presenting accurate information.

The Thai consulate websites (and even the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website) are often works of fiction. If you contact a consulate by phone or email, you are more likely to get an accurate picture (give or take language issues) but the conditions may vary depending on which consular official handles you when you actually turn up in person. By the way, do not believe what a consular official tells you about Thai immigration, or what an immigration official tells you about visas you apply for outside Thailand. Their advice is totally unreliable.

Anything you are unsure of, ask in this forum.

Welcome to the murky area of Thai immigration rules!

Thanks, if you what you are saying is correct and I am playing devils advocate here btw (as I am sure you an other members are right) why hasn't anyone pointed this out to the consulate, or if they have why haven't they corrected it?

Can we see the real truth somewhere on an official site?

The Hull consulate may have it on their website because they have gotten to the point where they only want to issue tourist visas. There have been reports of non-o visa applications being refused for lack of financial proof.

The embassy website also has some incorrect info on it but will issue a non-o based upon marriage with no financial proof needed.
