Hello

I am considering a trip to Thailand from the fitst week od Dec until the 1st or 2nd week of January.

I am a sporty very young looking 40 yr old who will be travelling alone.

I am wondering the best way to spend a month. I was thinking of 5-6 days in Bangkok and then the remainder perhaps in ko samui and other nearby islands???

I suppose I am looking for places where it won't be difficult to meet new people and have fun.

Most sporty 40 year old, very young looking, single guys, traveling alone seem to enjoy a visit to Pattaya.

Meeting people will not be a problem.

They will find you. :o:D

in a month time you can see more than that.

go to Ayuthaya, near Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is a little further. In the north there is Chang Mai with some mountains and national parks. Try to see Angkor Wat in Cambodia (you can fly by a budget airline there).

Rather stay away from the major islands - at this time of year there will be more tourists than the palm trees and price of accommodation will be high

ermm what I didnt understand was with the sporty young looking description....

ok sporty I can recommend rock climbing in krabi :o but young looking????hmmmmm lemme think about that and get back to you :D
