Deposit 2 or 3 months before for retirement visa extension?

Featured Replies

I carry a U.S. passport and my O-A visa expires July 2. I will be extending it for the first time. My question is simply: Do I need to transfer the 800,000 baht into a Thai account 2 months before July 2 (i.e., May 2), or is it 3 months before (Apr 2)? I've read both in various places, and I cannot find any Thai immigration document that specifies this. I'd appreciate hearing from people who've actually done this recently so I can prepare.

  • The money needs to be in your account for at least 60 days prior to the application date for the first time extension and for 3 months prior to future extensions.

You don't need to wait until the current permission to stay expires (July 2nd). You can apply up to 30 (45 at some offices) days early. The extension will start form the end of your current permission regardless of how early you apply.

The money must have been in a Thai Bank for 2 months on the day you apply for the extension.

I would be tempted to transfer the cash early ! Delays/difficulties in transfers are not unknown smile.png

Subsequent applications require the money to be in the bank for 3 months on the day of application.

When did you first enter using the O-A?

What does the "ENTER BEFORE" date on the visa sticker say?

Just asking to know whether you already used the chance to get another (2nd) year by a simple border run without any application/money in the bank etc.
