Me and my girlfriend went today to thai Embassy in KL, after giving the form and the photos i was told to sit down like everybody else, then they called me and told me i needed it

Hotel booking

Ticket to Thailand

Letter from Bank notarized

Letter from employer notarized

I read this forum before going there and i was thinking this could happen

Monday i will go to Penang, but im kind if worried that all my plans to go to Thailand will dissapear.

I thought that i was going to have a chance being first time to Thai.

What are my chances in Penang?

Yeah, we have been there and done that, that's why we are advising people not to go to KL.

Penang will do a single entry tourist visa with just passport, application form and photos.

(Ignore the double entry tourist visa stated in this document, that has been phased out).

You are not the first to be refused by KL and you will not be the last !

You should be able to get a visa in Penang.

Do you have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate?

I do have the certificates. I got them back home.

Today they refused everybody that was asking tourist visas there.

Why do they do that? I mean. Seriously? Ask for stuff foreigners cant have.

I doubt anyone can answer your questions about KL !

Have the YF certificates available when you enter Thailand as immigration may ask to see them.

hey OP!

Like others have already said you should be able to get it in Penang but if for some reason you still have problems go to neighbouring Cambodia insteadsmile.png

look at this short film and tell me it doesn't make you want to go theretongue.png

I think they refused for the same reason as me. I think they just don't want to issue visas in KL.

Because the officer said, if you get the requirements by today we can give you the visa.

So is not like they are on hold. They just know that we wont we able to get all that requirements.

My theory is that it is simple work avoidance. They are happy with their reputation which deters people from bothering them at all in many cases. I think they will only accept some applications on a quiet day when they do not want to leave work early.

A off topic post meant to derail the topic and the expected replies to it has been removed.

It's tempting to come to the conclusion that they don't want farangs unless it's for a short vacation. That fairly much sums up the way most countries look at foreigners. No reason Thailand should be different.

I am uncertain what you mean or intended to add to this topic.

The OP was seeking a single entry (short term) Tourist visa.

Many people (me included) have lived in Thailand for many years without any difficulty.

Which is a misguided conclusion.

By 'They' I assume you mean 'Thailand'

When in fact the decision to issue a visa rests in this case with the people working at the Thai Consulate in KL.

Other Thai Consulates (Penang, Vientiane, Hong Kong, Perth, etc etc) will have no problem issuing a Tourist visa.

The Immigration Law clearly states that so long as you have the correct visa there is no limit to how long you can stay in Thailand (albeit with brief trips out to get a new visa).

If you can demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to live here without working then even being under 50 is no barrier to long term stay on Tourist visas.

I have never thought that and I don't understand why so many others believe in the conspiracy theory that foreigners are only good when they spend money for a month and go home. if that were true then Immigration only have to say - "no more residents"

I would bet that most tourists have not spent as much as me in my 13 continuous years in Thailand. Of course, collectively, tourists earns more baht than residents but this country needs its long term stayers if only for economic reasons. And who knows the great influence of residents in promoting more visitors to Thailand arising from their vast knowledge and experiences.

Like everyone, I have had dealings with Immigration over the entire period and while there have been a few hiccups, I am very happy with my relationship with that Office.

Most problems are caused by the Foreigners themselves who from bad management, ill fortune or just plain bad attitude, have had their run-ins with Immigration and Border Controls. I accept readily there are Officers who can be difficult to deal with but in my experience remaining calm I find them being more sympathetic towards me.

Yes, in my time, I have felt frustration, particularly the waiting but I know all those behind me have even more time to wait. I never complain to the Officers - they don't keep us waiting out of spite. It is the system they and us have to work with!

whistling.gif We don't have time to go into the history here.....but let's just say KL has had problems before issuing illegal visas allegedly stolen in the past......and therefore the situation there is still not the friendliest.

Penang is much friendlier.

How would you explain KL then?

How would you explain KL then?

There's not that much to be explained. KL's requirements are published on their website.

They are in line with what the OP described being asked for.

They are very strict yes, compared to other places.

The reason many of us get frustrated is because of the inconsistency of being asked for something in one place and not being asked for it in another place.

But it's been like that for years. Applies on all sort of visas.

How would you explain KL then?

I can not vouch for every country's Thai Office with every person, each with a different scenario.

In any event, my post is about the conclusions people seem to reach that visa-seeking foreigners are not welcome in Thailand because they had problems meeting the requirements. I agree that different Offices seem to have their own rules or interpret them differently but I see no hidden agenda.

Yes, that's true, it depends on which IO you go to, they all make up their own rules.

Well there are many different rules. And every country handles it different. For that reason i dont think it's an advice that comes from Thailand.

Even for the METV in some Thai consulates in germany you can prove in many ways the 5000 euro on bank requierment.

I just asked her yesterday what ways there are and this was the answer:

1. Show last bank account amount

2. Bring 5k and they will make a pic of it

3. Bring bank account paper from a parent

4. Bring bank account paper from wife

5. Bring bank account paper from any family member

Some other consulates want 3 month in row bank account papers. And account on and so on...
