Dealing with fleas on dog and home - help please

Featured Replies

Our cocker spaniel has inherited fleas from the previous house owners flea-ridden dogs and no matter what we do they come back, the house has eggs I guess and a constant supply of fleas is the result.

My wife who knows everything refuses to use the powerful vacuum cleaner as reccomended yet complains about the fleas which annoys me more than a little but hey, she is Thai and one cannot tell them anything at times.

Ideally both home, yard/garden and dog need doing at the same time on the same day and then a repeat maybe a couple of weeks later along with vacuuming skirtings and other crevices. Reading up on the subject there is a chemical calleed IGR that is contained in some solutions, apparently it means Insect Growth Retardent and prevents them maturing and egg laying. The fleas that is, not Thai wives.

We live in Khlong Sam Wa, a few km from Minburi, Bangkok. Can anyone advise a brand name of a treatment we can dilute, spray everywhere with a garden fan sprayer, and buy in the area that contains this IGR?

Probably the best answer is to call in the local pest control. They'll have the right chemicals, and will know what to do.

They should also be able to advise you when it's safe for your dog to come back into the de-fleaed areas. (You may need to keep him away for a day or two, depending on what they use).

It'll cost you a bit more than doing it yourself, but it'll be worth it to get the job done properly.
