EC unveils smartphone application for election-public referendum

BANGKOK, 25 March 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission has unveiled its latest innovation for smartphone users to help voters ready for elections and public referendum.

EC member Somchai Srisutthiyakorn on Thursday introduced “Taa Sapparod” or “Pineapple Eyes” application for smartphone, which has been designed to allow for reporting election-related situations and any suspicion related to electoral fraud.

Mr. Somchai said that the new application will also facilitate members of the public in filming video or taking photo that can be sent to the system for the EC to launch a probe.

He assured that all information submitted via the application will be carefully stored and treated as confidential.

Mr. Somchai added that he hopes the innovation will be instrumental in the clampdown on fraud and irregularities while saying that free download will be available on April 11.

Lastly, he said that another application, which contains the details of the new draft Constitution will be unveiled in April as well.

details of the new draft Constitution

Hopefully details will include the full unabridged version of the draft constitution.

But according to a recent royal endorsement of amendments to Sections 1-4 of the interim charter (now officially the Interim Constitution), the CDC is obligated to produce an abridged version of the draft charter for public viewers. The EC will have final authority on the published version.

EC indicated it will post details of the final draft constitution on an internet app. Hopefully, the EC will go beyond its call of duty and publish the unabridged version on the app in Thai and Kelantan-Pattani Malay (for Muslims). Not to do so might be viewed as being manipulative.

Yeah, an app will save the day.

Hmm, an app for monitoring voting practices in referendums and elections?

One suspects that if Orwell were alive this idea would be incorporated in "1984"!
