PHUKET: While drought grips more than half the country, mainly in the Northeast and Central Plains, Phuket has enough water reserves to see the dry spell out until the seasonal rains arrive in May, The Phuket News has been told.

“I am confident that water reserves will be enough from now until May,” Pisak Cholayut, Director of the Phuket Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) said on Wednesday (Mar 23).

“Bang Wad reservoir is the main water reserve for Phuket. It has a full capacity of about 10.3 million cubic metres, right now it still has 5.52 million cubic meters of water in store,” he said.

Bang Niow Dum reservoir in Tambon Thepkrasattri, which has a full capacity of about 7.2 million cubic metres to serve areas in Thalang, is also in good supply. “It currently has about 5.5 million cubic metres of water,” said Mr Pisak.

Cool, so can you turn on the water again for my area that hasn't had proper water supple for a month please? Thanks.

... and if the "seasonal rains" don't arrive in May?

Cool, so can you turn on the water again for my area that hasn't had proper water supple for a month please?

Me too please.

Yes, it'll last with rationing and reduced pressure.

So glad I'm water independent and don't have to rely on government supplied water.

Previously they were saying the rains won't arrive until July!

Do you have a link?

Lived in Phuket for decades and the latest I've ever seen the rains arrive was in the first half of June in 2010.

... and if the "seasonal rains" don't arrive in May?

Last year they were a mere trickle. The whole monsoon from May to September was pretty much a non-event. This year will probably be even less.
