BANGKOK: -- Airport Rail Link (ARL) today conducted an emergency evacuation and relief drill to protect its passengers in case of a power supply failure on its electric train.

The drill was conducted an hour after midnight at Hua Mark station, the scene where a packed electric train broke down after a power supply failure stranding passengers inside the locked train on March 21.

The incident caused many passengers to breathe difficultly and some fainted after the train’s reserved power supply ran out of battery causing the air ventilation inside to stop functioning.

The late night drill was said to be its second time this year after the first drill on January 28.

Observing the drill included ARL president Gen Darun Yuthawongsuk, and engineers from the Railway Technical Research Institute.

The drill focussed on practising the readiness of ARL officials to cope with emergency case similar to the March 21 incident.

They included drills on the evacuation of passengers from train to station, from train to train, and from train to track between Hua Mark and Ramkhamhaeng stations.

Defects in the drills today will be improved for further drills in future to ensure full safety for passengers.

Seems the January drill didn't do a damn thing, given the poor way the March incident was handled.

Ah yes this time the big banana was there,

an improvement maybe.

'The late night drill was said to be its second time this year after the first drill on January 28 ... ... The drill focussed on practising the readiness of ARL officials to cope with emergency case similar to the March 21 incident.' Well, let's trust this drill proves more effective than the 28th January one ...

'... Defects in the drills today will be improved ...' ... and that the defects are eliminated, not 'improved'.
