Where to buy oats in bulk?

Featured Replies

Cheapest I've found is 500 gram bags at Big C for 42 baht, does anywhere have them in bulk for less?

That's a pretty good deal - Hahn Oats? You won't get better. I pay 200 - 300 baht for 500 grams of steel cut oats when they're available.

Check Makro

I did some search for oats in Thai language.

Not found a trace of anything bigger than 500 gr or so.

Prices comparable.

Oats are exotic import food basically unknown here.

Or let's say only known to very few Thai people tongue.png

Just watching a Thai video about cooking oats ("LET'S EAT CLEAN" is the motto).

EDIT: 800 gr Quaker Oats seems available.

Yes that is the brand. I would get steel cut too if they weren't so costly

@KhunBenq: Were the Quaker oats prices competitive?

I used to think of it as expensive, but if you break it down it isn't. I can't remember what exactly I paid last time... let's say 250 baht for 500 grams should be close enough. An oats meal for me requires 80 grams of raw product, which gives me a decent serve. That's 6.25 serves per packet or 40 baht per meal. It's less than people pay for a beer and about the same as a street cart meal. I also add fruit and milk, but that's added no matter what price I pay for the oats.

The problem is finding them. When stock runs out at Villa Market or Tops Central you don't see them again for a long time as they are very slow moving lines. If I do see them I grab quite a few packets.

Makro : McGarrett oats ( from australia) 400 gr for 39 B. Oates back home brandless in Aldi , 33 B/400gr . So Thailand isn't that expensive.

Just went to Makro and picked up a 1 kg bag for 89, so that is the new low price. I think I misquoted in my original post (400 g for 42, 500g for 50 at Big C).

Quaker instant 800 gr for 108 baht at Foodland.

Tried McGarrett oats tastes just as good and also instant

When my Quaker stash is finished I'll be going with value McGarrett

What about the 1 kg bag at Makro is that an instant type?

No regular rolled oats

Wild oats available for sowing everywhere.

The German oat Hahne is my favourite , 49 baht for 500 grams (Big C or Friendship). The blue type you can make porridge in the microwave in 3 minutes.
