BANGKOK, 31 March 2016 (NNT) – Security units have been prepped to ensure the safety of citizens during the Songkran holiday with particular focus to be placed on inspecting vehicles and maintaining road laws.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has held a meeting with security agencies to prepare measures for the Songkran festival. He ordered officers to foster understanding with the public on how to stay safe during the holiday. Authorities will work with provincial governors and local administrations to fulfill the task.

To decrease the amount of road accidents, more checkpoints are to be set up and driving speeds will be closely monitored. Police have been ordered to stringently enforce road laws and to seize the license or vehicle of any individual driving recklessly.

Speaking on the government’s efforts to uproot influential groups, Gen Prawit said a recent Cabinet resolution has empowered authorities to better combat drug rings, arms dealers and smugglers of other contraband.

They do that every year. Yet, somehow they always seem to set a new record for road deaths.

I so hope that, this time, it's not just more hot air. unsure.png

It's not. They will take your license and let you drive away, most likely after paying some fine. There will be checkpoints of course! A lot of them. Some might even issue real tickets.. Others! Whose to say! Even those that issue real ones will be working harder and you will have to pay before they let you go. That way, when the checkpoint is closed they can divvy up the money so they can go see their geeks or go drinking themselves. SSDD
