The Cambodian Construction Association yesterday urged authorities to plan and develop more satellite cities as the population in the capital increases rapidly, straining services and infrastructure. The Association’s chairman, Pung Kheav Se, said Phnom Penh had almost reached capacity and city planners had to find more room for its increasing population.

“When the population in a city reaches more than two or three million people, it needs satellite cities to meet the growth and this is an international trend – developing satellite cities,” Mr. Kheav Se said. “And we should do the same thing. Phnom Penh is about 36,800 square kilometers, so when the population reaches about two or three million people, we are going to need more satellite cities.
