EC holding information session to prepare for public referendum

BANGKOK, 5 April 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission (EC) is holding information sessions for various provincial officials to clarify its guidelines the public referendum.

EC Commissioner Dhirawat Dhirarojvit said the effectiveness of the referendum will lend credibility to Thailand's political transition. Should the constitution be approved, the country will begin drafting organic laws. He also stressed the importance of budget management by local agencies.

Related agencies will be required to raise awareness for the public referendum and encourage people to exercise their right to vote. Mr Dhirawat added that he was confident that up to 80% of the voting population will participate in the referendum.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said the EC will extend the voting period to 4:00pm, allowing absentee voters to vote online and provide assistance to those with disabilities and the elderly. He also affirmed that the EC will allow equal time for those in support of the draft constitution and those in opposition to voice their reasons.

The EC will hand out a booklet to all households containing a summary of the draft charter, as well as the viewpoints of those for and against the draft.

He urged all provincial officials to properly inform the voters while remaining impartial. The EC will provide guidelines on the do’s and don’ts of how to service the public.

Right everyone, attend these sessions but do not, and it cannot be stressed enough, do not ask questions or raise any points in case they are taken as criticism.

We know what happens to ' errant ' people who criticise.

There is a lot of catching up to be done for the opposition side then............... and they will presumably be "enrolling" for the new camps while they voice their opinions.
