DOJ sues to block Halliburton-Baker Hughes megadeal, companies to contest

Halliburton Co. and Baker Hughes Inc. announced April 6 that the two energy giants plan to contest the U.S. Department of Justice's lawsuit to stop the $34.6 billion megadeal that would combine the second- and third-largest oil field services companies.

The DOJ officially filed the lawsuit to stop the deal on April 6, citing concerns that the combination would eliminate competition, according to various media reports. The move was expected in the days leading up to the filling.
