BANGKOK: -- Deputy prime minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan said today he has ordered intelligence officers to investigate and find out persons who are behind a student activist group that disrupted constitution drafting Commission chairman Meechai Ruchupan's charter speech at Thammasat University yesterday.

Gen Prawit said he wanted to know if the disruption of the speech was made with good faith or had any hidden agenda.

The deputy prime minister’s came before flying to Narathiwat to visit local officials and inspect the situation.

Meanwhile Royal Thai deputy spokesman Pol Col Krisana Patanacharoen said Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, the commissioner of the Royal Thai Police has ordered police to investigate and find out who are behind the defiant student activist Sirawith Serithiwat, or known as “Ja New” in disrupting and forcing Mr Meechai to end his speech yesterday at Thammasat University.

He said this student activist has several criminal cases in record which are pending court’s trials.

He said the police will look into legal aspects to see whether the latest case defied any law so that legal action will be taken against him.

What is wrong with these people? Cannot they not see, or comprehend, that people are getting fed up with them and their authoritarian ways?

In the mean time they keep swatting at flies, all the while ignoring the rumbling volcano.

dark things happened some years ago at that place.

father in law was happy he missed that, he was up country meeting kamen deng, but some of his friends have memories of dark days at thamma.

Itis not a hidden agenda : it is a crystal clear agenda : bring back the power to the people and free speech.

This junta looks more and more like the one I play in Tropico : absurd and grotesque

Power to the people? Free speech? What about the Elites? They had their way for hundreds of years and now some farang called Zuckerberg invents a website meant to disrupt the peace and order in the beloved nation.

Shame on him.

PS: I am being sarcastic, I don't want some to actually believe the above, although on a more serious note, that's how they think. China for example blocks Google, Youtube, Facebook, Panama papers etc.

Meechai also has a right to speak but was silenced through ignorance, I believe he is a good man and is doing his very best for the country, he wrote the draft charter would it not be a better idea to let him explain its intentions rather than try to silence him, if these people have objections to certain aspects of the charter then voice them in a civil manner and explain why they object

If you still believe he is the brain behind the chart you are lost... He is barely the hand holding the pen and the face to "convince" the people.

We also know what this charter is about : appointed representants, 20 years minimum under the supervision of a politburo ruled by the army and the elites.

When you can go to trial for a red bowl on fb, no doubt what goal this charter has.

If the Junta had for 2 years did something for this country we would have known already.

While Burma raise, Thailand fall...

Interesting game but according to wikipedia.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropico_5

The game was banned in Thailand. The country's military junta government said that the game's storyline "might affect peace and order in the country." The game's distributor in Thailand, New Era Thailand, explained that "In the fifth installment, the storyline has developed further and there might be some part of it that's not appropriate in the current situation [in Thailand]."

Maybe this part of the game is seen as a bad influence.

As leader, you can decide your country's independence and write a full constitution.

'........ordered intelligence officers........"

Now there's a subject worthy of discussion.whistling.gif

These so-called intelligence officers have been investigating since 2014 when Ja New held the famous sandwich protest. The junta made him signed a MOU to stop political activity and he thumbed the junta's nose with another protest in 2015 followed by the infamous park visit event. This is a just a matter of speaking moment by Prawit to create the control illusion. The junta just can't see the forest from the trees that they are highly unpopular and there are increasing unhappy people.

BANGKOK — Student activist group New Democracy Movement chose a crowded public event on a national holiday today in the capital to open their campaign urging the public to reject the draft charter.

The group chose the popular National Book Fair held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, which was packed with visitors Wednesday on Chakri Day, to kick off their “Vote No, Don’t Accept an Unchosen Future” campaign, which will continue until the referendum is held.

"Meechai also has the right to speak" There is no "also" as opponents to the charter are forbidden to hold similar meetings to express their views.

If opponents to junta's charter were "also allowed to speak", maybe they wouldn't feel the need to disturb Meechai's meeting.

In Prawit Wongsuwan, you are looking at the face of a likely next PM of Thailand. While some people are ugly only on the outside, this man is also ugly on the inside.

Well only if he wins the election presumably?

Oh dear, silly me....
