BMA promotes road safety in Bangkok



BANGKOK, 7 April 2016 (NNT) - Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over a road accident prevention campaign at Victory Monument to encourage people to respect traffic regulations.

The Bangkok Governor Sukhumband distributed stickers and pamphlets to passersby at Koh Phaya Thai with representatives from the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation and other relevant agencies.

According to the Bangkok Governor, more than 6,900 people were involved in road accidents last year and 193 were killed. However, the number of roach fatalities in Bangkok has declined continuously over the past six years due to constant campaigning on the part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

The campaign will target six district groups in the capital city throughout the year. M.R. Sukhumbhand urged commuters as well as passengers to follow road rules for their own safety.

Should see an immediate increase in accidents as drivers read the pamphlets while driving, pamphlet in one hand and beer in the other.

Not sure how passing out these to pedestrians is going to reduce drunk driving.

Bangkok doesn't need traffic police or driverslicenses, we have pamflets, stickers and amulets.

What a load of bullshit. The traffic fatalities in Bangkok on a yearly basis are well over the several hundreds as has been stated before on several occasions and it hasn't been getting better, it is worse. 193 is closer to the monthly figure.

The more the traffic gets snarled up, the fewer are the opportunities for poor drivers to cause serious accidents. Possible the 6 year improvement in accident statistics coincides with a 6 year worsening in congestion.

The way to reduce accidents over Songkran is to ensure gridlock.

How does one respect the regulations where is is no respect for those placed in charge of enforcing the regulations? How also does one respect the regulations when most drivers are selfish inconsiderate fools?

So he goes to a major bus interchange, where there is also the BTS and minvans to places all over outside Bangkok and hands out pamphlets on better driving? Smart man.

But I guess the real purpose was to toot his own horn with fake statistics :

Good to know the ROACH fatalities are going down....

Money and time well spent on promotional materials. I wonder how many showed up for this fine event.

Maybe someone should enforce the laws that already exist. And, give proper sentences to violators. I know, silly me!
