BANGKOK:-- A young woman was left with severe burns after a building being demolished crashed down in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok.

In the rush to escape falling masonry a vat of chicken soup fell on the twenty three year old, reports Daily News.

Shoppers and diners ran for their lives at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 95, Prakhanong as part of the former Bang Chak market was being taken down.

Three floors of the former five storey structure were left and were being dismantled by a backhoe positioned to the rear on a large pile of earth.

Suddenly there was an unexpected collapse. Natakarn Traiyapa,45, the mother of the injured girl Hataichanok, 23, said that a cauldron of chicken soup in a khao man kai restaurant next to the falling building fell over as she fled falling concrete. She was treated for severe burns to both legs at Sukhumvit Hospital.

An unnamed foreign man was also slightly burnt in the accident.

Police said that the building was being taken down storey by storey and a backhoe was being used. The contractor had a permit for the work from the local authority.

Investigations are underway to see who was at fault and what compensation should be paid.
