CDC to revise transitional provisions once draft charter passes referendum



BANGKOK, 11 April 2016 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) says it will amend transitional provisions of the new constitution after the draft has been approved by the public.

CDC chairperson Meechai Ruchuphan said once the draft constitution passes the upcoming public referendum which is expected between July and August, the CDC will be given 30 days to go over transitional provisions and make appropriate adjustments.

Afterwards, the revised draft will be forwarded to the Constitutional Court for interpretation. When finished, the draft will be handed to Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha who will seek royal endorsement from His Majesty the King.

The CDC chairperson said in all likelihood, the new charter will be promulgated 3 months after the referendum.

Also add the Prologue justifying the need for the military coup and new constitution ... and perhaps whatever other provisions deemed not appropriate for public review and approval?

Why even bother with a referendum?

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu recently said that if the people vote against the draft charter in the referendum, the government will consider drafting another one based on past constitutions and adopted without a public vote.

Both major political parties have voiced opposition to the Charter. The referendum will result in a government of, by, and for the Junta.

What a surprise given the number of conferences and seminars that have been shut down.

And the fact that the EC is slow getting their comic-book version to the printers.

1) they seem confident/assume that the charter will be accepted by the public

2) shouldn't any revisions be made PRIOR to the referendum?

3) as per DPM's statement: vote for this crap or we will ram the charter we REALLY want down your throats without a referendum

This is getting smellier by the day.

They know that regardless of what it contains it's been written for the amart/military and whether they vote yes or no is imaterial. They still get shafted.

I hope he refers to the transitional rules between the present military constitution and the new one, which will be subject to a referendum this August.

Not the transition to the constitution after the one voted.

But shouldn't the people know these transitional rules before?
