If you are Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Iranian, Nepalese, Togolese, Nigerian, Ugandan nationalities on a tourist visa obtained at a Thai Embassy/ Consulate. You will get 30 days when you arrive and then a 7 day extension. That is it! Before Oct 1st it was 60 days entry plus 7 days extension allowed.

Per the 7.3 (2)of the National Police Office Order No. 606/2006

7.3 In the case of Tourist Permitted for not more than 30 days per visit but shall not exceed 90 days in total

Subject : Regulations for consideration in granting the special duration of temporarily overstay in the Kingdom of Thailand for some categories of foreigners

According to the Immigration Bureau Order No. 110/2003 dated on June 11, 2003, about regulations and conditions in consideration in permitting foreigners to temporarily overstay in the Kingdom of Thailand, as stated in the regulation no.1.2 that in the case of a foreigner who is stamped as a tourist VISA and the said foreigners are Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Iranian, Nepalese, Togolese, Nigerian, Ugandan nationalities, the Immigration Officer shall stamp on VISA notifying the VISA Holder to leave the Kingdom of Thailand within 7 days, and;

As the Royal Thai Police Order No.606/2006 dated on September 8, 2006, about regulations and conditions in consideration in permitting foreigners to temporarily stay in the Kingdom of Thailand, has ordered to cancel all regulations and conditions of the Immigration Bureau Order No. 110/2003 dated on June 11, 2003.

NOW, THEREFORE, in order to keep the Immigration Officer’s performances on the case of the foreigners who have the aforementioned nationalities to be complying with the formerly stipulated policy, under the virtue of the Item 3 of the Immigration Bureau Order No. 229/2006 dated on September 12, 2006 and the Resolution of the Meeting No. 1/2006 of The Board of Commissioners of Immigration Observation Committee, held on October 3, 2006, the Board of Commissioners hereby empower the Immigration Officer to approve and stamp VISA permitting the foreigners, who have the nationalities as mentioned above, to temporarily overstay in the Kingdom of Thailand not exceeding 7 days.

Please be notified and take into action from now on.

Another tightening. They will then purchase a tourist visa for about 2000 Baht and get only 30 days, followed by an extension (1900 Baht) of 7 days. So a total 37 days or so will cost about 4000 Baht....

I wonder whether all the tailors will dissappear!? :o

(joking here, as I am sure they have registred business/work permits/PR/nationality already and are happily paying their taxes).

Let us all be thankful that we are not Thai immigration officials. Can you imagine how difficult it must be with all these different rules for different nationalities, all with the same type of visa, the tourist visa. And that’s only a minute part of the dense jungle of rules and regulations these officials have to work with every day.
