Thais across the country ready for Songkran

BANGKOK, 12 April 2016 (NNT) - People across Thailand are gearing up for the country’s famous Songkran festival, which will kick off tomorrow on April 13.

In Ayutthaya province, thirteen elephants from Wang Chang Ayutthaya Lae Paniad took part in a sand-sculpting activity and a religious ceremony. These majestic animals will take to the streets to join water play with their human counterparts on Srisanphet Road from April 13 - 15.

To assure the safety of talcum powder, reporters have been invited to observe the manufacturing process in Lopburi province. Provincial Governor Phanu Yamsri insisted the powder was safe for revelers to use during the water festival.

In the northern province of Chiang Rai, soldiers have presented the Huai Din Dum Reservoir to local residents in Wiang Chiang Rung district, as a Thai New Year gift. The reservoir will supply around 500 homes in the area with enough water to last the summer.

As Thailand also celebrates National Elderly Day on the first day of Songkran, Trang Governor Dejrat Simsiri will preside over an event to honor senior citizens for their contributions to society.

Meanwhile, paintings on cement bunkers in Yala province have been completed, welcoming visitors to the province during the water festival. The painting, which were made by students and local residents, portray their way of life.

And free pass at road tollways since last weekend. And free water for splashing water.

It is nice living in such a wonderful country where the government isn't trying to gouge money out of everyone at every oppurtunity.

Beautiful people these Thais. And songkran is when they are happiest. Lovely to see.

I'm also prepared, having done enough grocery shopping to stay in my condo for 3 days.
