BURIRAM: -- A temporary “morgue” has been set up at the I-Mobile stadium in Buriram province to accommodate trouble-makers who allegedly ruin the Songkran festive atmosphere.

At the initiative of Mr Newin Chidchob, president of Buriram United soccer club, the “morgue” was converted from a container and painted black. It was set up beside the stadium and will be used to keep trouble-makers who caused troubles at the stadium, the site of Songkran celebrations under the slogan “Buriram Songkran GU Elephant Event”.

It was reported that the detainees would be kept in the dark in the “morgue” until the end of the celebrations after which they will be turned over to the police for legal actions.

The celebrations feature concerts, a water tunnel, parties and various entertainment activities. They started at noon today and will last until tomorrow.

The organizers of the event have predicted that over 100,000 people would participate in the celebrations.

How appropriate, detaining Songkran revelers in a morgue! That puts a real positive spin on the festival and will surely attract tourists! If you're not put in the morgue while traveling on Thailand's roadways, you can get there by just having a wild time during this 'festive' holiday. Gotta love this country. cheesy.gifclap2.gifthumbsup.gif

How is it this man is allowed to get away with this and didn't he do a similar thing last year with a cage?

The man needs arresting if he does follow through with this.

He won't be, but he should be.

It's his party on his land so maybe he has a right to look after his interests. The reason for keeping them in the crate was because it takes time for find a bunch of policeman who are all sober at the same time. :)

He cannot decide to lock them up.

That he thinks he has the right to do so shows the contempt this creature had for the law and the rights of others.

Great strategy! Making it known and visible just might be enough to prevent trouble. And if is not then get what comes!

PC brigade would prefer some ya baa ed up a-hole should be taken to a nice air con office and supplied tea and bickies?

And in the morgue they can sort out what they started.

News flash for the hard of thinking: human rights apply to all. It's not being PC to oppose there abuse-it's a duty. It doesn't matter what someone has done, extra judicial or vigilante action is wrong. Edited by Bluespunk

The man's methods may well offend some of you barrack room lawyers, PC brigaders and the odd tough guy.

Rest assured they are very effective and ensure a trouble free environment where families can enjoy themselves without being terrorised by drunken louts.

On a previous similar occasion, he'd put on a demonstration of Muay Thai boxing as part of the entertainment.

When the gangs of youngsters began inter village fighting, Newin's security men rounded them up and they were made to fight the Muay Thai guys in the ring.

The professional fighters were told not to hold back or they would not be paid. No more trouble

I disagree with every single sentiment in your post.

I disagree with every single sentiment in your post.

Reading your earlier posts on this subject, this comes as no surprise at all.

You really should venture out of the ivory tower you inhabit and taste the real world.

This is Thailand; the Police are ineffective with only lip service paid to the rule of law or human rights.

All that matters is money and power.

Newin Chidchob has both.

He provides I believe free entertainment for the less fortunate of the area and does his utmost to ensure their enjoyment is not spoiled by mindless hooligans.

For this he should be applauded rather than castigated.

The threat of “the morgue” will I am sure, be much more effective in controlling the unruly youth than a whole ream of quotations from Voltaire.

I think the rights of innocent families trump those of troublemakers

Illegally detaining troublemakers in a locked, dark, shipping container - what could possibly go wrong? crazy.gif

No worries. The method has been used very nicely over the years for the trafficking in the refugees. Only a 10-20% death rate, and they'll probably have given them some extra air holes and water.

Nonsense.

Newin, who is the embodiment of the abusive nature of power in Thailand, can provide whatever he wants.

He can throw out who he likes.

What he cannot do is act as the law and entomb those whose behaviour he dislikes.

He has no right to do so.

None at all.

And if some intended trouble maker invites himself to your private property where you have an event occurring and proceeds to cause havoc you suggest that that abuse is equal to your own ? Human rights are not an exclusion for anti social behaviours which too often lead to deaths and injuries to the innocent. That sort of PC defacation is what is sending societies down the sewers!

Correctional edit.. you suggest that that abuse is equal to your own or superior to your own right to censure?

Your first word was spot on, you do spout absolute nonsense,

He cannot?

Sorry, he can, he did and an extremely peaceful fun night was enjoyed by all.

Do you live in Thailand?

Surely you will lodge an official complaint about the human rights violations you say have been commited.

Go on – you said yourself in post #20 “its a duty” - do let us know how you get on with it.

Or is it that your posts on this matter are merely pompous pseudo intellectual nonsense from a sad keyboard warrior?

Someone comes onto your property you throw them off.

What you cannot do is put them into a cage.

It's nothing to do with PC, it's the fact that vigilante and extra judicial justice is wrong.
