JohnDodd
Does this apply to the millions of dirt-poor Chaow Na who are trying to scrape a living from rock hard soil, a situation caused by the short term and clueless policies of the Darwinistic minded "elected" elitist political class of no-hopers. eliotness
If the government can't afford to pay civil service pensions from 55/60 then why not do as nearly every country has done and raise the retirement age. However any payment of "pension" to the ordinary peasants is tiny compared to civil servants and to raise the age for the rural poor would be a real shame, but priorities, need to buy those subs, tanks and whatever, for the "big boys" to play with ! Want to choose your retirement age and not be dictated to by the government?? Then provide for yourself via a personal superannuation fund. Paying tax is not contributing to a super plan. Taking the aged pension is sponging on future generations of taxpayers. The aged pension was only ever intended to be a safety net, and a person who retires at 65 will receive more than he ever paid in tax by the time he reaches 80. I paid more in tax than most, will never receive a cent from the government, but still retired mid 50's because I took responsibility for myself. People need to accept responsibility for themselves and not expect future generations of taxpayers to support them. I tire of people in the aged pension bitching about not receiving enough from the government when they contributed f*** all.

If you were lucky enough to afford your own super-scheme good luck to you, but bear in mind it is just part of the tax avoidance scam practiced by many and not available to probably 95% of Australians. Its the new mantra now you work from the cradle to the grave. With robots coming online soon the young working Thais will really be squeezed for employment as they will be fighting robots on one end and older seniors on the other. Doesn't look like much of a future for them. Forget really low end wage jobs the Burmese, Cambodians, and the Lao have a lock on them. My g/f's brother and his g/f just left for work in Korea no not the NK.

Para 1 is a typical put down comment from one who obviously isn't as smart. I left school at 14, and educated myself thereafter. It's more about being determined than being smart, and I decided I didn't like not being able to afford the good things in life. OAP factored into the tax system? It may have been 50+ years ago, but now we have more people wanting more $$ and contributing less. That's why the government wants people to provide for themselves, also extend the age for eligibility? ........ it is unaffordable. Tax avoidance is illegal, personal superannuation is not. Not available to 95% of the population?? Perhaps you haven't noticed that Australia has a national superannuation scheme covering ALL wage and salary earners. Employers contribute 9% of the gross, not nearly enough, but it's a start. Edited April 14, 2016 by F4UCorsair

Employers contribute 9% of the gross, not nearly enough, but it's a start. 9.5% now. And everyone has had the option to salary sacrifice a lot more if the choose to do so. What a lot of people don't realise is that it has become a tri-generational problem in Australia with people moving to the aged pension scheme - who have never, ever worked or contributed in any way to the economy - having lived on the various taxpayer funded handouts known variously as the dole, disability pension, single mothers supplement etc etc. Not to mention the rent support and a myriad of other benefits. A lot aren't the stereotypical hard working man/woman/couple who has earned the right to an aged pension. I personally know of a woman who had a couple of daughters and received government support - and no she wasn't abandoned by her husband. Her 2 daughters have done the same thing and their daughters are doing the same thing. Three generations with not one of them even seeing a wedding ring. Boyfriends obviously but that doesn't come into the assessment. And they don't see an issue - that's the lucky country for you. And middle Australia working people have to foot the bill for this. Any complaints and the leftist media and their supporters shout you down as being callous and uncaring of the the most "vulnerable" section of society. NCFC
Same thing in UK. They get themselves pregnant, next thet stuff themselves on junk food. Dinaly they develop junk-food related illnesses so that they can fall into the vulnerable category and live off the sweat of hard-working people.
