BANGKOK: -- The Government’s Savings Bank has set aside a 2.6 billion baht fund for its early retirement programme in order to rejuvenate and re-energize the organization.

GSB managing director Chartchai Payuhanavichai said Thursday that the early retirement programme was meant for employees who are over 50 years old with poor health and unable to cope with modern working conditions.

He expected about 600 employees to join the programme each of whom will receive a compensation amounting to 32 months of their last salaries.

Mr Chartchai explained that the early retirement programme was a part of the bank’s policy to rebrand its image and to rejuvenate the organization. Currently, the bank is employing about 20,000 staff half of whom are less than 30 years old.

He said that the bank expected to cut costs by about one billion baht in three years and, in the long run, its operating costs would be lower.

Looks like they want to kick out the seniors and be a cheap charlie for the youngsters.whistling.gif

I thought that the retirement age was to be increased from 55. This seems to be in direct conflict with such musing.

What they really want to look at if they want to improve the banks image is the attitude of the staff! When the wife would go into the Big C branch Sukhumvit Rd and Phattaya Tai branch or Central festival their body language was enough to convince me we weren't welcome. We found the TMB to be a slight improvement!

Sounds more like a redundancy payment than a pension as it is a one off payment, I don't know when they will start getting their pension, it doesn't say.

Some people are prejudiced, can you think of any reason why someone might prejudice your wife? Revealing dress, visible tattoos, low education level, etc? I am not saying she does or that if she does that this is in anyway acceptable to treat her differently to anyone else, only that I have seen each of these things seemingly result in the cold shoulder by some rather horribly conservative people.

If this is a redundancy payment, averages out as 5 million baht a person. That would be a good payoff in Europe, Guess Bank clerks need not apply .......
