Sukhumvit-area Songkran revelers told to avoid tunnel site

n2%20water.jpg

PATTAYA:--Pattaya officials warned Songkran revelers not to throw water or engage in Thai New Year frivolity around the construction site for the Central Road bypass tunnel on Sukhumvit Road.

Municipal officers and police handed out flyers along Sukhumvit April 5, asking for celebrants to go to Pattaya Beach to engage in water fights, particularly on the city’s “wan lai” day, April 19.

Traffic normally comes to a near standstill on Sukhumvit on wan lai day and this year, with lanes closed due to construction of the 900-million-baht tunnel, the gridlock is expected to be even worse.

Doesn't look good if the tunnel will flood from a water fight before they've finished it. That might force them to rethink their plans. It's better to finish the project then charge again for renovations converting it into a waterway

This is soooooo off topic, but thinking of it, the tunnel will be the start of a Pattaya subway system and the traffic will be led over an elevated Sukhumvit or or.......UnderwaterWorld will move in a year or 2.
